The Japan International Influencer Association (JIIA) has designated December 3rd as “Influencer Day,” in light of the changing social environment surrounding information dissemination.

Today, individual content creation and communication through social media play an important role across a wide range of fields — including the economy, culture, regional revitalization, and international exchange. As the influence of creators continues to grow, the importance of ethical standards, information literacy, and social responsibility required of communicators has become greater than ever.
As part of our initiatives to promote proper and healthy development of information dissemination, our association has established this commemorative day.

Origin of the Date

“Influencer Day” is based on the Japanese numerical wordplay 1 (In) – 2 (Furu) – 0 (En) – 3 (Sā), symbolically representing the word “Influencer.”
Because this numerical combination embodies the concept of “influencer,” we determined it to be an appropriate date to raise public awareness of the role of communicators.
Additionally, December marks the period when creators review their annual activities and set goals for the following year; thus, the timing is also suitable as a moment of reflection.

Background of the Establishment

  • Rapid changes in the environment surrounding information dissemination
  • Growing social influence of content creators
  • Increasing use of influencers in regional revitalization and cultural promotion
  • Rising importance of media literacy and ethics
  • Growing need for accurate communication in multilingual and multicultural contexts

Taking these circumstances into consideration, we established this commemorative day with the intention of helping society correctly understand the role of influencers and foster a healthy culture of information dissemination.

We hope this day will serve as an opportunity for everyone involved in content creation to reaffirm their roles, responsibilities, and mindset, and to contribute to the creation of a healthy information environment.
